Facebook Live with Heather Sachs

Heather Sachs is a Registered Dietitian with a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition. Heather has more than 15 years of experience combining her knowledge in food, nutrition, and regulatory affairs as well as translating science into impactful brand communication.
Heather began her career in the advertising space buying and planning media for large pharmaceutical companies. Working to create diabetes resource centers that focused ton nutrition combined with her personal work with a Registered Dietitian ignited a passion for Heather into the field of nutrition.
Upon completion of her Master’s degree from NYU and becoming a Registered Dietitian, Heather founded a nutrition counseling practice called Journey to Nutrition. Shortly thereafter, she realized how much she missed the world of advertising and working with great brands. At that point Heather decided to combine her love of nutrition and marketing and join glaceau, as the Nutrition Manager working with brands like vitaminwater and smartwater. Here, Heather worked on the creation of new products, clinical trial development, and ingredient education. Less than a year after joining glaceau, the company was acquired by The Coca Cola Company.
Thanks to this acquisition, Heather became a part of the North America Science and Regulatory Affairs team. In this role, Heather honed her skills around the regulations behind nutrition labeling and science and regulatory affairs. Heather ultimately served as the Senior Scientific and Regulatory Affairs (SRA) Manager for The Coca-Cola Company’s North American portfolio of beverages adding brands like Minute Maid, Odwalla, Honest, and POWERADE to her portfolio.
After nearly 10 years at TCCC, Heather took the next step in her career and accepted the role as KIND’s Director of Regulatory Affairs. At KIND, Heather delivered subject matter expertise while ensuring compliance with all SRA standards across formulas, ingredients and packaging for the KIND Snacks and Creative Snacks portfolio. Heather developed, executed, and maintained SRA business processes related to claims development, packaging review, and product deviations. She also coordinated with cross-functional divisions including R&D, IT, Trade, Communication, and Legal to deliver guidance related to nutritional integrity of each product.
Heather worked closely with executive leadership to propose new solutions by effectively monitoring the regulatory environment. Heather led consistent process improvement for regulatory functions and optimizing efficiency across recipe development between R&D and regulatory teams. She supported essential business needs and interests by proactively staying up to date
with the advancement of research and regulatory challenges, conducting risk assessments and proposing new solutions.
Following Mars’ acquisition of KIND Snacks, Heather embarked on the next phase in her career as Director of Regulatory Affairs at Blue Apron. At Blue Apron Heather works cross-functionally with Culinary, Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA), Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, Marketing and Legal teams to interpret applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the food and nutrition labeling, marketing, and distribution of our products. In this role Heather is responsible for the management and continuous improvement of Blue Apron’s Food & Nutrition Labeling Compliance Program, Fulfillment Center Material Label Control & Inspection Program and Blue Apron’s Product Recall Program.
As a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Heather is an active participant in the nutrition community. Heather resides in New Jersey with her husband Josh, son Maxwell and step children Tatum and Hunter.
